The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Jan. 11

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – No. 19 Lincoln Memorial guard Gerel Simmons has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 4-10, the League announced today.

Simmons, a senior from Accokeek, Md., averaged 21.5 points per game to lead the Railsplitters to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week, including a win over then No. 8 Queens.  He got his week going with 31 points on 85 percent from the floor, 4-of-5 from downtown and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line to lift Lincoln Memorial to a 120-84 win over Mars Hill on Jan. 6.  Three days later against the Royals, Simmons put in 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist as the Railsplitters picked up an 86-76 win.  Simmons currently ranks No. 2 in the League with a 50 percent stroke from beyond the arc and is fifth in the SAC with 19.4 points per game.  The honor marks his first Player of the Week selection this season.
