The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Feb. 15

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – No. 4 Lincoln Memorial guard Gerel Simmons has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 8-14, the League announced today.

Simmons, a senior from Accokeek, Md., averaged 33 points per game and shot 55 percent from the field to lead the Railsplitters to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week.  He got his week going with 34 points on 63 percent from the field, 75 percent from long range and 7-of-8 from the line in a 103-92 win at Tusculum on Feb. 10.  He also dished out five assists and came away with three rebounds and a steal against the Pioneers.  Three days later against Newberry, Simmons poured in 32 points to go along with seven rebounds, seven assists and a pair of blocked shots. 

He is currently ranked No. 3 in the League with 20.3 points per outing and tops the South Atlantic Conference with a 48 percent stroke from three-point land.  The honor is his second Player of the Week selection this season.
